Check out our review of the LG G Pro 2 smartphone.

We thought we’d have to wait until Mobile World Congress to see LG’s first major smartphone release of 2014, but now, it looks like we’ve only got a few days to go instead. LG has sent out some invitations to an event in Korea, to be held on February 13, which could be for the highly anticipated G Pro 2’s local launch.

LG has already confirmed the G Pro 2 will be at MWC 2014, and that the device will feature a 13-megapixel camera with new optical image stabilization technology. The invitation doesn’t provide any more information on the hardware specs, but does hint it’ll use LG’s Knock-on software feature. Well, this is what we assume it means by quoting Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, and not that the phone is potentially dead on arrival.

LG Feb 13 Event InviteSuspect lyric quotations aside, we’re expecting the G Pro 2 to cause quite a splash at MWC. It’s the sequel to last year’s Optimus G Pro, and if the rumors are correct it’ll be bigger, better and more powerful.

The screen may increase in size to 6-inches, and then boast a whopping 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. We know LG has a 1440p screen waiting in the wings, but it’s still not clear whether the panel will first be used on the G Pro 2, or wait for the G3 later in the year.

A quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM are both potential features, along with the rear controls seen on the LG G2 smartphone, plus an Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. We already mentioned a 13-megapixel camera will be found on the rear, plus a 2.1-megapixel camera will be mounted up front.

LG pulled the Optimus G Pro out of the bag before MWC last year too, when it announced the phone for Japan only on January 22, before giving the device its international debut at the Barcelona show a few weeks later. Unless the February 13 event turns out to be for something completely different, it looks like LG will employ a similar strategy this year.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR is my new favorite Android phone of 2024
Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
