Guardians of the Galaxy debut trailer tickles Marvel’s funnybone

In case it wasn’t clear before, it definitely is now: Marvel Studios’ upcoming summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy is a comedy. This isn’t news. It’s been known for some time. But Guardians doesn’t have quite the same cache in the public consciousness as an Iron Man or a Captain America, so its ridiculous antics need to be shoved in front of people’s faces.

That’s what this freshly released trailer – which Marvel released a teaser for yesterday – is all about. It’s the public’s first proper look at the superhero space comedy, which is due to arrive on August 1. Chris Pratt stars as Star-Lord, and he’s joined by fellow Guardians Zoe Saldana, as Gomora; Dave Bautista, as Drax the Destroyer; Bradley Cooper, as the voice of Rocket Raccoon; and Vin Diesel, as the voice of Groot. These five rascals band together, and shenanigans ensue. Also, the entire galaxy is in danger. Fun times.

Check out the trailer below.

A still from Dark Matter (2024) on Apple TV

Some of the best series on Apple TV have earned great reviews, yet none of them get talked about nearly as much as they deserve. That's why I have included three different genres in this weekend's binge list, which is based on a bestselling sci-fi novel, a beloved wine manga, and a true-crime memoir. The best part is that each one of these shows manages to outdo its source material's reputation on the screen.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Denzel Washington playing Macbeth in The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021)

Apple TV's original catalog is full of hidden gems that never got the attention they deserved, and this weekend's picks prove it. From a true story about two Black entrepreneurs outsmarting a racist system, to Denzel Washington's chilling take on Shakespeare's most ambitious villain, to a scrappy Dublin family finding harmony through music, these three movies span very different genres.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
