Wait, what?
Okay, so Colbert wasn’t exactly a tennis announcer in real life. He played one in a video game though. The late-night talk host lent his dulcet tones to the oddball Outlaw Tennis from Hypnotix, which was released in 2005 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game features a… diverse cast of colorful characters, like Bruce Leibowitz, the Jewish ninja; or Summer, the blonde PhD stripper; or Lizzy, the alcoholic punk rocker. It’s a game with evolved sensibilities.
This charming little gem came out just months before Colbert launched his hit Comedy Central series, The Colbert Report. Could it be his scintillating read of a script praising the “tight ass” and “incredible rack” of a “guidette” that won him the Daily Show spin-off? Would that, in turn, mean Colbert can thank Hypnotix for indirectly putting him in the chair that will soon be vacated by Letterman?
No. Probably not. But hearing his familiar nasally siren song introduce these absurdly drawn characters is a real hoot.
