If it’s for real, Genty’s Akylone supercar is a McLaren P1 killer

Back in 2011, the French Genty Akylone supercar stormed the Internet, but we haven’t heard much from the company since.

Has Genty gone the the way of so many other supercar startups? Apparently, not yet. Motor Authority reports that the French carmaker has revealed a slight update of the Akylone and new performance figures.

Genty has undertaken the ambitious task of developing its own V8 engine, a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter tower of power. Genty says it will produce around 1.200 horsepower and 861 pound-feet of torque, which will be sent to the rear wheels through a paddle-shifted six-speed sequential transmission.

The Akylone will match those outrageous power figures with an outrageously low curb weight. Thanks to a carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, Genty claims a curb weight of 2,429 pounds dry, plus a 52:48 front-rear weight distribution.

Performance should be equally impressive. Genty claims the Akylone will do 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 7.2 seconds, and 0 to 186 mph in 14 seconds flat.

To put that in perspective, a McLaren P1 will do 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, and 0 to 186 mph in 7.2 seconds.

So the Genty Akylone could have performance to rival today’s greatest supercars, but will it ever have a chance to drag race a P1? Genty is still seeking funds to build the Akylone, so it’s far from a done deal.
