Hulu‘s library is stacked with gems that deserve way more attention than they’re getting, and this weekend’s picks prove it. We have a dark Korean thriller from a legendary director, a sci-fi comedy that somehow makes an AI apocalypse feel funny, and a 93-year-old grandmother pulling off her own action movie. If you’re looking for underrated movies on Hulu that lie beyond the usual algorithm suggestions, this lineup is a great place to start.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Thelma (2024)

Genre: Action comedy
IMDb rating: 7/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 98%

Nobody expects a 93-year-old grandma to become an action hero, and that’s the premise this film runs with beautifully. June Squibb stars as Thelma, who gets scammed out of ten thousand dollars by a caller pretending to be her grandson, and sets off across Los Angeles to track down the culprits herself. What this film does best is take genuine Mission Impossible style tension and filter it through the very real physical realities of aging.

This hidden gem on Hulu blends heartfelt family drama with genuinely funny action comedy. What stuck with me most is Squibb’s performance, which balances stubborn grit with real vulnerability in her first true leading role after seven decades of acting.

No Other Choice (2025)

Genre: Dark comedy thriller
IMDb rating: 7.5/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

From acclaimed director Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave, Oldboy), this dark comedy thriller follows Man-su, a paper industry veteran who loses his job after 25 years and grows desperate to protect his family and home. Rather than hunting for a job, he starts eliminating the competition standing between him and his next position, quite literally.

I really liked how this movie balances a devastating critique of corporate capitalism with slapstick, chaotic violence. Lee Byung-hun delivers a stellar performance, while director Park Chan-wook masterfully injects twisted humor and opulent visuals into a bleak scenario. It is a brilliant and deeply cathartic satire that will keep you hooked.

You can watch No Other Choice on Hulu.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (2025)

Genre: Sci-fi comedy
IMDb rating: 7/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 82%

A man claiming to be from the future takes over a Los Angeles diner, and things only get stranger from there. Sam Rockwell leads this manic sci-fi comedy as a mysterious stranger who insists he must recruit the exact right combination of diner patrons to prevent a rogue AI from ending humanity.

This underrated movie fully embraces its chaos and blends it with satire about our addiction to technology. It also leans heavily into absurdist comedy without losing its sincere emotional core underneath all the noise.

You can watch Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die on Hulu.

Netflix on TV couple watching

The Hollywood argument over whether AI belongs in film and television production may already have been overtaken by reality. Netflix has confirmed that its creative partners used generative AI workflows across roughly 300 titles in 2026, with the largest concentration of work happening during post-production.

Keep in mind this number describes AI-assisted production workflows and not 300 completely machine-generated films and shows. Regardless, it does show how quickly the technology has moved beyond isolated experiments.
