X-Men: Days of Future Past is still in theaters and we have just shy of two years until we get to see the next one, X-Men: Apocalypse, but that hasn’t stopped director Bryan Singer from teasing fans about what the future holds for the Marvel mutants.
Singer kicked off the week by posting a photo on Instagram depicting a portion of the script for X-Men: Apocalypse. Dated June 6, 2014, the script offers a peek at the current Act One opening for the film, which begins with a prologue set in ancient Egypt. From what can be gathered from the snippets of text in the photo, there looks to be a battle raging around the Nile, with The Four Horsemen playing a key role in the bloody events.
In Marvel Comics canon, The Four Horsemen are powerful soldiers serving the villain Apocalypse, who — as anyone who stayed through the credits in X-Men: Days Of Future Past knows — has already been introduced into the cinematic X-Men universe. (His original name is En Sabah Nur — the name being chanted in that post-credits scene.) Over the years, The Four Horsemen have occasionally been members of the X-Men that Apocalypse has tortured and twisted to serve him for a period of time, but they have almost always been mutants whose powers (loosely) correspond to one of the four aspects of the Horsemen: Death, War, Famine, and Pestilence.
X-Men: Apocalypse is currently scheduled to hit theaters May 27, 2016. The script is being penned by Singer, Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris.
