If you’re a fan of NOVA, the science-themed TV show featured on PBS, you’re in for a treat. If you’ve ever wanted to explore the Periodic Table of Elements, whether you’re a student, a teacher, or just a person with intellectual curiosity, now you can do so using a Windows 8.1 app put out by the show entitled the NOVA Elements App.

Using the app, you can put together different elements to see how common items in our world are constructed from the ground up, including a banana, a shirt, coffee, and more. You can also learn how each element was discovered, what they look like, how they’re used in the world around us, and more. On top of that, you can use a “sandbox” to create the elements themselves, using protons, neutrons, and electrons. Twitter is also built into the app, allowing you to chirp about your thoughts, discoveries and questions straight from NOVA’s latest creation.

If you’re jonesing for some NOVA programming related to the elements, using the app, you can also watch Hunting the Elements, a two-hour special on that very subject made by the show. Unfortunately, you can only watch the stream if you’re located in the U.S., or one of its territories. Also, it’s unclear to us whether this app will be updated with new content regularly. We reached out to NOVA to find out.

You can grab the official NOVA Elements App from here, for free.
