The debut trailer for Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings has arrived online, offering the first look at the celebrated director’s new film that casts Christian Bale as the biblical hero Moses.

Along with some impressive visual sequences, the trailer puts the spotlight on the relationship between Bale’s Moses and the ruler of Egypt, Pharaoh Rhamses, played by Joel Edgerton (WarriorThe Great Gatsby). As the title suggests, the film is an adaptation of the biblical tale of Moses leading the enslaved Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and the series of plagues that preceded their departure.

Scott is certainly no stranger to lush visual sequences and breathtaking battle scenes, having directed both Gladiator (which earned him an Oscar nomination) and 2005’s Kingdom of Heaven. If the trailer is any indication (and it should be), audiences can likely expect more of that impressive sense of spectacle from the veteran filmmaker.

Along with Bale and Edgerton, the film’s cast also includes Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver, and Ben Kingsley.

Exodus: Gods and Kings hits theaters December 12.

Ridley Scott reveals show based on Blade Runner, gives update on Alien series
Harrison Ford in Blade Runner.

An Alien TV series was officially announced during Disney's Investor Day last year. Now, the original film's director, Ridley Scott, has revealed that another one of his iconic movies, Blade Runner, is also getting a television adaptation.

While speaking with BBC Radio 4's Today, Scott said, “We have already written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible. So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, probably the first 10 hours. And then Alien is a similar thing. Alien is now being written, a pilot. And when you write a pilot for TV, you also have to write the history. So ... you have to write out the bible of what happened in those 10 hours.”

The King's Man | Official Trailer 2 [HD] | 20th Century FOX

At a time when gritty realism has become Hollywood's go-to vibe for spy movies, the Kingsman franchise carved out a unique place for itself with wild, stylized adventures full of highly choreographed action sequences and over-the-top visual effects. After two successful installments, the series is now getting a prequel film, King's Man, which explores the early years of the secret spy organization.

Netflix is streaming the craziest action movie of 2024. Here’s why I loved it
A man floating in air kicks another man in the face in City Hunter.

This month seems to be the time to release action movies that color outside the lines. We've already had Dev Patel's Monkey Man, a messy, throw-everything-at-the-wall action movie that blends intricate fight sequences and on-the-nose social commentary in an entertaining package that will surely gain cult status in the near future. Just this weekend, Boy Kills World dished out loads of cartoon violence and over-the-top gore in a bid for John Wick-level fandom. Both movies bend or break the rules of reality to deliver quickly cut fight scenes that push the boundaries of the genre, all in an attempt to one-up the high standards set by the best movies in the Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious franchises.

Yet the best of the April bunch is the one that has the lowest profile. City Hunter doesn't star anyone you'd recognize like It actor Bill Skarsgård in Boy Kills World and hasn't been backed by an extensive marketing campaign like Universal's Monkey Man. But the movie is a blast; it's like putting Pop Rocks in a can of Mountain Dew and chasing it down with a couple of Pixy Sticks. It's ludicrous, immature, and totally unrealistic. It's also my favorite action movie of 2024. Here's why you need to stream City Hunter pronto.
It's an adaptation of a massively popular franchise
