50 Cent introduces SMS Audio BioSport Headphones powered by Intel

Headphones are fast becoming wearables these days, with biometric sensors baked in and Bluetooth connectivity included. Recently, 50 Cent’s headphone company, SMS Audio, joined forces with Intel to make a pair of biometric headphones called the SMS Audio BioSport Headphones.

The BioSport headphones can track your heart rate, sync with popular fitness app RunKeeper, and keep you motivated during your workout. The headphones use Intel’s technology to keep tabs on your workout and provide accurate feedback afterwards. Biometric sensors, including a heart rate monitor, are embedded into the small, over-the-ear, hook-style headphones.

An optical sensor monitors your heart rate as you exercise, while the headphones themselves block out ambient noise and the sound of your breathing. Luckily, the headphones don’t need to be charged because they aren’t connected to your phone via Bluetooth. Instead, the gold-plated 3.5-millimeter audio jack transmits power from your smartphone to the headphones, to keep things going. Of course, the BioSport headphones suck a minimal amount of energy from your smartphone, so you don’t end up with a dead brick in your pocket every time you go for a 5-mile run.

SMS Audio also says that the BioSport headphones are IPX 4 rated to protect against sweat, dust, and rain. Since the headphones sync with RunKeeper, they can help the app keep tabs on your heart rate, pace, distance, calories burned, and more. The company added that it plans to add more popular fitness apps to the list in the near future. The BioSport headphones are designed to be comfortable and look good, but most importantly, SMS says the audio quality isn’t compromised in the name of fitness.

Although SMS Audio didn’t announce a specific price for the BioSport headphones, it did say that they’ll be available in the fourth quarter of this year. The SMS Audio BioSport headphones come with a “tangle-free cord” that has an in-line microphone, a case, and three sizes of ear gels and hooks for adding comfort.
