It was revealed back in December 2013 that Anna Paquin’s scenes as the mutant Rogue were edited out of the theatrical cut of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but fans will have the chance to see the original, uncut version thanks to a restored edition of the film that will be released in 2015.

The “Rogue Cut” will hit shelves next summer, according to Variety, and feature more than 10 minutes of footage that was removed from the theatrical version of Days Of Future Past — including the scenes featuring Paquin as the power-absorbing mutant Rogue, a character she played in all three chapters of the original X-Men trilogy.

“It’s a big chunk — a substantial part of the movie,” said Days Of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg of the scenes restored for the “Rogue Cut” edition. “We want to give (fans) the fullest picture of the film — behind the camera, and in front of it.”

“Every movie has scenes that are cut out, but not every movie has scenes cut out with such a beloved character,” he added.

Kinberg reiterated that Paquin’s scenes as Rogue were cut from the film to streamline the narrative and keep the focus on James McAvoy’s version of Charles Xavier. In the end, Rogue’s subplot just “didn’t fit” with the final cut, he explained.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past hits DVD and Blu-ray October 14, and Kinberg is currently hard at work on the script for the follow-up to that film, X-Men: Apocalypse, which arrives in theaters May 27, 2016.

Since the first weekend of May is traditionally timed around the opening of a superhero movie, our first choice this weekend is a comic book film that's celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Our other two picks include Tom Hanks' directorial debut, and a generation-spanning drama that holds up three decades after its release.
