The next installment of the wildly succesful Fast & Furious franchise has an official title and a release date for the first trailer, which will premiere during a live, streaming event next weekend.
Set to hit theaters April 3, 2015, the next film in the blockbuster action series will be titled Furious 7, according to an announcement made by Universal Pictures. The studio released some new promotional imagery for the film, and also announced the November 1 online event that will introduce the first official trailer for the film.
“The Road to Furious 7: Trailer Launch Event” will kick off Saturday, November 1, at 12pm PST (3pm EST) on the official Furious 7 Facebook page and air on E! network. The event will feature the cast and creative team from the film, and fans are invited to submit questions via Instagram videos with the hashtag “#AskFurious7” or comments on the film’s Facebook page.
The event and title announcement was accompanied by another, revised synopsis of the film:
Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black. They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell. Neal H. Moritz, Vin Diesel and Michael Fottrell return to produce the film written by Chris Morgan.
The Fast & Furious franchise has raked in over $2.3 billion worldwide since the first film premiered in 2001. Furious 6 (the official title for the previous film, according to director Justin Lin) earned more than $788 million and was the sixth-highest-grossing film worldwide in 2013.
