Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy surpassed everyone’s expectations at the box office with its clever mix of cosmic action, quirky comedy, and old-school adventure sensibilities, and director James Gunn is certain to win over even more fans with a new video introducing the home video edition’s special features via a classic, 8-bit video game environment.
Posted to Facebook by Gunn and captioned, “A glimpse of the bonus features from the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Blu-Ray!” the video (embedded below) begins with the start screen for a game titled “Galactic Adventurer, featuring James Gunn” and features a digitized Star-Lord jumping and rocket-booting his way through a traditional, platform-based sidescroller.

At one point in the video, he encounters an 8-bit version of Gunn, who introduces himself as a “Galactic Adventurer,” only to be met with a “Who?!?!?” from Star-Lord (aping a clever scene from the opening of the film and trailers).
While it’s likely that this sequence simply frames some of the special features and isn’t actually a playable game, there’s always hope that we’ll see an 8-bit Galactic Adventurer game, given Marvel’s well-documented attention to fan-favorite elements of the film and its promotional campaign.
Guardians of the Galaxy earned more than $768 million so far at the global box office, and is currently the highest-grossing film of the year in the U.S. with more than $330 million in ticket sales. It arrives on DVD and Blu-ray December 9.
