A live-action movie based on the wildly popular 2009 manga series Attack On Titan has been in the works for a while now, with the project initially announced back in 2011, only to have it change directors, writers, and various other elements of the creative team in the years that followed. The film appears to finally be in a good place, though, as the first images of the cast in costume debuted online this week.

The new images premiered at Japanese-language site Eiga.com (with subsequent re-post and translation via a Tokusatsu Network), and feature the nine primary cast members in full uniform as humanity’s best defense against the monstrous, man-eating titans that threaten the species’ very existence. The film is directed by Shinji Higuchi, who served as VFX director on many of the fan-favorite Godzilla and Gamera films released in the ’90s.

The live-action Attack On Titan stars Miura Haruma as Eren and Mizuhara Kiko as Mikasa, Eren’s adopted sister. Along with many of the primary characters from the manga, it will also feature several new characters created for the film.

Attack On Titan has sold more than 45 million volumes since the first volume hit shelves, and its enormous popularity has spawned an animated series, multiple video games, and an amazing Subaru commercial, among other projects.

There’s no release date set for the film just yet, but they’re expected to premiere at some point in 2015.

You can see a few of the character posters below, and the rest over at Eiga.com (arranged in a gallery near the end of the article).

With advertising in full swing, it feels like the hype for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14 is at an all-time high. As gamers work through existing content in preparation for the new Shadowbringers expansion, there’s another morsel of good news for those that would like to see Final Fantasy 14 expand outside of gaming. Sony Pictures and Hivemind are teaming up for a live-action television series based Final Fantasy 14.

Hivemind is the production studio behind the upcoming live-action Witcher series on Netflix. The studio also produced Amazon’s The Expanse, a sci-fi drama based on novels by authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. This isn't the only recent news regarding Sony getting involved with television or film based on video games. The company spun off the new PlayStation Productions studio in May and it will be dedicated to producing projects based on PlayStation-exclusive franchises.

The cast of That Thing You Do!

The first weekend in May has arrived, and Hulu fans should be happy to hear that there's a new lineup of movies to enjoy. Like most of the major streamers, Hulu debuts the majority of its library additions on the first of the month. But there will more movies released on Hulu throughout May.

Since the first weekend of May is traditionally timed around the opening of a superhero movie, our first choice this weekend is a comic book film that's celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Our other two picks include Tom Hanks' directorial debut, and a generation-spanning drama that holds up three decades after its release.
