Mark Wahlberg says Transformers 5 could begin filming soon (and he’ll be in it)

Guardians of the Galaxy is the highest-grossing film of 2014 in the U.S., but internationally, Transformers: Age Of Extinction reigns supreme as the biggest ticket-seller of the year by a wide margin. So it probably comes as no surprise that a sequel is indeed in the works, but Age Of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg recently confirmed that not only will he be in it, but it could begin filming soon.

In an interview with MTV, Wahlberg indicated that he signed a multi-film deal for the Transformers franchise, and hinted that he expects to get the “Roll Out!” call for the next installment of director Michael Bay’s blockbuster franchise any day now.

“Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more,” said the actor when asked about his status in relation to the Transformers franchise. “I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’ll be on set soon.”

Transformers: Age Of Extinction grossed over $1 billion and $245 million domestically this year. The film cast Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, a mechanic and inventor who gets caught up in the Autobots’ war with the Decepticons on Earth and the black ops agency out to discover the Transformers’ secrets by any means necessary.

The film ended with a cliffhanger of sorts that could be seen as either an end to the franchise or a fresh, new direction for the series. Bay has hinted that he might turn over the reins on the franchise to a new filmmaker after directing the first four films.

A still from Dark Matter (2024) on Apple TV

Some of the best series on Apple TV have earned great reviews, yet none of them get talked about nearly as much as they deserve. That's why I have included three different genres in this weekend's binge list, which is based on a bestselling sci-fi novel, a beloved wine manga, and a true-crime memoir. The best part is that each one of these shows manages to outdo its source material's reputation on the screen.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
