First trailer for Ant-Man makes Paul Rudd a size-changing, ant-riding superhero

After teasing the debut of the first footage from Ant-Man with ant-sized and human-sized previews, Marvel Studios released the first trailer for the upcoming film during last night’s premiere episode of Agent Carter, its new television series set within the studio’s cinematic universe. And the size-changing superhero’s introduction didn’t disappoint with an action-packed trailer that saw star Paul Rudd brawl, shrink, and even ride a flying ant.

The first preview of Ant-Man, which closes out “Phase Two” of Marvel’s cinematic universe later this year, clocked in with just under two minutes of footage. Like the title character, the trailer managed to pack a lot into a small package.

The footage begins with a voiceover from Michael Douglas, who plays scientist Hank Pym, the designer of the size-changing suit that gives Ant-Man his superhuman abilities. In short order, we’re introduced to Scott Lang, the thief played by Paul Rudd who Pym recruits (out of prison, apparently) to don the suit and assist him in an unspecified mission.

“I need you to be the Ant-Man,” says Douglas to a somewhat skeptical Rudd.

The second half of the trailer features Rudd in the Ant-Man suit, rapidly changing his size, summoning a flying ant, tossing a well-dressed Corey Stoll (who’s believed to play the film’s villain) through a window, and even trading a few punches with a character played by Evangeline Lilly. The preview ends with a shot of Ant-Man leaping onto the back of a flying ant and taking off into the air.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man hits theaters July 17.
