We suspected Land Rover had new Evoque in the pipes, but we meant that figuratively, not literally. While it’s been focusing on the more rugged side of things with its launch of the Discovery Sport, Land Rover has been cooking up a more domestic surprise, officially revealing the new Ranger Rover Evoque Convertible today by sending it through an obstacle course deep underneath London.
The new drop-top evoque, still camo-clad for testing, tested its mettle through the Crosstrail tunnels underneath London. The 26 miles of tunnels, still under construction, will connect areas to the east and west of the capital to places throughout the city such as Heathrow Airport, Canary Wharf, and the West End. These gave the Land Rover engineers a unique opportunity to test the Evoque Convertible out of site of the public, tackling different obstacles while traversing a 6.2 meter diameter tunnel.
This marks the second time Land Rover has sent the Evoque down the tubes, as back in 2011, the five-door Evoque was driven through the Edge Hill Tunnel in Liverpool, the first tunnel to ever be bored underneath a major city.
Details of the new Range Rover Evoque Convertible are minimal, as Land Rover plans to announce them later this year. What we do know is that the convertible will be built in the same Halewood plant in England, alongside the Evoque five-door and Evoque coupe.
