HBO releases new Game of Thrones teaser and three behind-the-scenes videos

Game of Thrones Season 5: Preview (HBO)
With the fifth-season premiere of Game of Thrones fast approaching, HBO has released yet another teaser for the upcoming season, as well as a trio of video featurettes that offer a sneak peek at the set, weapon designers’ work on the series, and various other behind-the-scenes elements.

Scheduled to debut globally Sunday, April 12, the new season of Game of Thrones is expected to finally bring together some of the individual story arcs that have been unfolding separately over the course of the previous four seasons, and set many of the series’ lead characters on a collision course with each other. George R.R. Martin’s fourth and fifth books in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series are said to provide much of the inspiration for the new season.

In the behind-the-scenes videos released by HBO, fans can get a look at the international sets for the series that spanned multiple continents, as well as some of the custom-made weapons that will appear in the fifth season. Another video also offers some insight into the set design for the fifth season and some of the new places the upcoming season will take the series.

In a unique approach to the series’ premiere, HBO will broadcast the first episode of the new season of Game of Thrones simultaneously in over 170 countries and territories around the world at 9:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, April 12. Additionally, the North American HBO network, HBO Asia, HBO Canada, HBO Europe, HBO Latin America, HBO Netherlands, and HBO Nordic will all air the episode at the same time that day. The HBO-branded networks will be joined by various “Home of HBO” services internationally in Africa, Australia, Belgium, France, Israel, Germany, New Zealand, and several other regions.

You can watch the new teaser for the fifth season here, as well as all three behind-the-scenes video featurettes.

House of the Dragon season 2: Everything we know so far
Alicent and Rhaenyra clutch each other in House of the Dragon.

While it may not be coming this year, long-time Game of Thrones fans are already eagerly anticipating the return of House of the Dragon. The show became a genuine phenomenon in its first season, which told the story of the friendship between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower as it soured into what would eventually become an all-out civil war.
HBO renewed the show for a second season almost as soon as the first season began airing, and we already know plenty about where the show will be headed when it returns.
This post does not contain any spoilers for the show’s second season, but it is informed by Fire & Blood, the Targaryen history by George R.R. Martin that the series is adapted from, and will obviously continue to focus on the conflict between Rhaenyra and her younger half-brother Aegon as they battle for control of the Iron Throne.

What will happen in season 2 of House of the Dragon?

Without delving into spoilers, the second season of the show is expected to pick up soon after the first season left off. Fans of the show will likely recall that that season ended with Aemond Targaryen’s dragon inadvertently attacking and killing Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon. Lucerys’s death is what ultimately brings what had been a simmering conflict closer to a boil, and leads to a much greater level of death and destruction.
We also know, thanks to an interview with one of the show’s writers, that a moment known to fans as Blood and Cheese will be included on the show. The exact details of that moment are best left to the imagination, but suffice it to say that it’s a moment likely to leave many fans talking.
