According to Motor Trend, an unnamed source spoke to its senior features editor Jonny Lieberman saying that an upcoming F-TYPE SVR will have an output expected to exceed 600 horsepower.
To put it in perspective, the JaguarF-TYPE R currently cranks out a mighty 550 horsepower from its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 powerplant. That’s about as powerful as Jaguar vehicles currently get, if you don’t count the F-TYPE Project 7, which was an edition of the roadster that was limited to 250 units. That homage to the Le Mans winning D-TYPE was able to muster up 575 horsepower.
How the crew at Jaguar-Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations skunkworks division plans on squeezing even more power out of the V8 is something we’re eager to find out. We’d also like to know if it will be a raw, rear-wheel drive affair, or a more controllable AWD vehicle. Time will inevitably tell, but this will give the F-TYPE the chops to top rivals like the Porsche 911 Turbo, with its 560 horsepower output and Mercedes AMG GT, cooking up 503 hp.
This will be the second car from the organization that will sport the performance-oriented SVR badge. The first and current vehicle to rock it is the Ranger Sport SVR, currently billed as the fastest Land Rover ever. We’ll keep our ears to the ground and hopefully discover soon that there’s another, meaner Jaguar hiding in the grass, ready to pounce.
