Rezvani’s 500-horsepower ‘Beast’ supercar to offer Apple CarPlay connectivity

With a 500-horsepower supercharged engine, advanced airflow management, and a curb weight of just 1,650 pounds, Rezvani’s ‘Beast’ supercar is aptly named. Don’t let the primal moniker make you think its some lumbering ogre, though, because this speed demon is also truly connected.

In June, Rezvani will join Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Chevrolet, and dozens of other automakers by offering Apple CarPlay connectivity.

CarPlay allows iPhone users to integrate smartphone functions into their infotainment system, reading texts, facilitating calls, playing music, and accessing navigation controls quickly and easily.

The addition of CarPlay brings some welcome refinement into the two-seater’s relatively spartan cabin. With its carbon fiber composite body and menacing appearance, the car aims to reinvigorate “pure supercar performance with minimal electronic interference,” but it’s nice to see that convenience systems haven’t been totally left out.

The hand-built Rezvani, which is available to order now, costs $165,000. You don’t just get CarPlay for your coin, though, as a supercharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder sourced from Honda Racing is mounted behind the driver for optimal weight distribution, and it produces a whopping 500 hp and 427 pound-feet of torque.

That impressive grunt is channeled to the 19-inch rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and limited slip differential, resulting in a 0 to 60 mph sprint of just 2.7 seconds.

With a name like Beast, one might worry about making it around corners safely, but Rezvani took special care when tuning the vehicle’s handling. Independent forged aluminum suspension components keep the supercar flat and stable through the bends, bolstered by 10-way adjustable Bilstein dampers and anti-roll bars all around. The Beast also equips Alcon four-piston competition brakes for organ-rearranging stopping power.

The line between your smartphone and your car continues to blur. Volvo has announced that it is rolling out an over-the-air software update that brings Apple Music directly to the infotainment systems of more than 2 million vehicles worldwide. Instead of relying on Apple CarPlay or plugging in an iPhone, eligible drivers will be able to stream music natively from their car's built-in system, making Apple Music another integrated feature of Volvo's software experience.

The update is arriving for a wide range of Volvo models, including the EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40 and EC40, covering model year 2020 onwards. Availability, however, may vary depending on the vehicle.
