Logitech has announced the MX Anywhere 2 Wireless Mobile Mouse, a new device that looks set to offer users the same precise input regardless of where they need to use it. Charlotte Johs, global vice president of computer peripherals at Logitech, described the product as “by far the most versatile portable mouse that we offer today.”
The company’s Darkfield Laser Sensor is the reason that the device can be used with such flexibility, as it can track movement on any given surface. It does so by detecting the smallest possible details of the plane it’s being used on, mapping out its surroundings and using that information to deliver a precise pointing experience for the user.
The MX Anywhere 2 can be used with both Windows and Mac systems, and can swap between up to three different paired computers at the touch of a button using Easy-Switch functionality. If you’re using it with a Mac, you can even set up the same gesture controls you would use on a touchpad via the Logitech Options software package.
The device pairs with computers via Bluetooth or the Pico Unifying Receiver bundled with the product. You can expect a full two months of usage out of a single charge of its battery — a significant upgrade over its predecessor, which used standard AA batteries rather than a rechargeable solution. Just one minute of USB charging will reportedly result in two full hours of usage of the MX Anywhere 2.
With a broad range of useful features and an overarching focus on practicality, the MX Anywhere 2 looks like a potent option for anyone looking for a robust, precise mouse to use on the move. The device is set to retail for $79.99 when it becomes available in the United States this month.
