Even though it’s been 12 years since the horror franchise’s last installment, there will be a new Jeepers Creepers movie after all. Entitled simply Jeepers Creepers 3, the film — which tells the tale of ‘the Creeper’ which hunts for human body parts and organs for 23 days every 23rd spring — will begin production next year. Myriad Pictures, which financed Jeepers 2, will back the third film alongside Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope studios.

Victor Salva, who wrote the first two films, returns to write and direct Jeepers Creepers 3. The stars of the first two films — Brandon Smith (who played Sergeant Davis Tubbs) and Jonathan Breck (who played the Creeper) — will also return for the third film.

“Writing and directing a new Jeepers film, the first in over a decade, is incredibly exciting for me and I believe for Jeepers fans all over the world that have been asking for more,” Salva said in a statement. “What will go before cameras as Jeepers Creepers 3 is a new and terrifying chapter from the Jeepers universe. We are bringing back the Creeper’s truck, and will be addressing the big questions about The Creeper: what it is, where it came from and why it does what it does.”

It sounds like this will be the last in the series, with Sergeant Tubbs forming a task force to try to destroy the finally destroy the devious Creeper. In the process, though, expect lots of blood and gore as they both delve into the Creeper’s ancient history and fight the mysterious monster.

While the first two Jeepers Creepers did reasonably well, raking in a combined $120 million at the box office, the third film had been in theatrical limbo for several years. The announcement confirming the film will be made after all must give relief to the series’ fanbase who heard whispers of a third film (and, at one point, maybe even a fourth) as early as 2008. The film tentatively has a late 2016 or early 2017 release date.

Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

Amazon Prime Video is starting off strong in May with several new additions to its library of movies, including the premiere of the original romantic drama The Idea of You. Last year's underrated Christmas drama The Holdovers is also now streaming on Prime Video. And as far as we're concerned, a good drama is never out of season.

Prime Video lost a handful of movies at the end of April, and Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza is only sticking around through the end of the weekend. But everything else on our list of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video right now is still available. Just keep reading, and you can make plans to watch any of the films that you want to see this month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (May 2024)
Jenna Ortega in Miller's Girl.

It should come as no surprise that this year's hit rom-com Anyone But You has a stranglehold on the top slot of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. But it is somewhat surprising to see Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver completely disappear from the list. That's going to make Rebel Moon – Part Three very unlikely to happen, and it may even discourage Netflix from committing extremely high budgets to its original sci-fi movies.

More tellingly, two of this week's new additions are modestly budget dramas: Miller's Girl and The Judge. The former features Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, while the latter has great lead performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. So it's not a mystery as to why both of those films are two of the top performers of the week.
