Hyundai will storm into SEMA with a 500-horsepower Genesis Coupe

Hyundai has teamed up with long-time partner ARK Performance to build an extreme-looking Genesis Coupe that boasts a heavily modified drivetrain. Dubbed Solus Genesis Coupe, the concept will be presented in November at the SEMA show that will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The most significant upgrades are found under the hood, where ARK has fitted the Genesis Coupe with an evolution of the stock model’s V6 engine that has been stroked to 4.0 liters. The engine is also fitted with stronger connecting rods, new pistons, a new crankshaft, coated headers, and high performance headgaskets, among other modifications. All told, there are very few mechanical components that still carry a Hyundai parts number.

The six sends over 500 horsepower — roughly 150 more than the Genesis Coupe’s stock 3.8-liter mill — to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Performance specifications have not been published yet.

The extra power is complemented by a full visual makeover. The lone sketch published by Hyundai shows that the Solus Genesis Coupe gains a deep front bumper with large air dams and a carbon fiber splitter, blacked-out headlights, a trunk-mounted spoiler, flared fenders and wide alloy wheels. The coupe also sits a lot lower than stock thanks to extensive suspension modifications.

Pictures of the cockpit are being kept under wraps until the SEMA show opens its doors. However, ARK promises the Genesis Coupe has been spruced up with a steering wheel borrowed from the Sonata Sport, a redesigned dashboard, a Rockford Fosgate sound system and a new instrument cluster.

Hyundai hasn’t revealed what the future holds for the Solus Genesis Coupe. However, it’s worth noting that the company has displayed extreme-looking models built with input from ARK at the past seven editions of the SEMA show and none of them have ever made the jump from concept to production.

In the City of Sin, the Solus Genesis Coupe will share the spotlight with a custom-built Tucson crossover that boasts over 700 hp. Hyundai might have a few surprises in store, too.
