Despite competing against each other at the Golden Globe Awards, there was no love loss between Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence.

Lawrence went on to win the award for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” for her role in David O. Russell’s Joy (Schumer was nominated for her turn in the comedy Trainwreck), but in Twitter’s eyes, both leading ladies were winners on the night.

BFFs in real life, Schumer and Lawrence appeared together onstage at the ceremony to promote each other’s films (Trainwreck and Joy were also battling it out in the “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” category), and the reaction on Twitter was unanimously positive.

The two Hollywood actresses have undeniable chemistry, which they used in their dialogue to riff on everything from Hollywood nicknames (“J.Law” and “A.Schu”) to the pressure on female actors in the industry. At one point, Schumer almost dropped the c-bomb, before being interrupted by Lawrence, to roars of laughter from the star-studded crowd.

Although it was a brief moment in the three-hour long coverage, it caught Twitter’s attention (much like Leonardo DiCaprio’s eyebrows). Even within the lighthearted context of the Globes – which has transformed into the Oscar’s rowdy young sibling – Twitter was so taken with the two besties that users started petitioning the Globes to get them to host next year’s ceremony.

If Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer don't host the Globes next year I will be highly disappointed in the entire AFPA.

Jennifer Lawrence and @amyschumer should host the golden globes together next year

amy schumer and jennifer lawrence NEED to host the golden globes next year

It’s a tad bit early to predict who will oversee the awards next year, but Schumer and Lawrence hosting Golden Globes 2017 could be a possibility. Following the mixed reactions to Ricky Gervais’ performance, and the fact that the British comedian has now hosted four times in the last six years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association could be after someone fresh to take the reins next year. Female presenting duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did a fine job in 2015 (their third and final time presenting), setting a precedent for double acts. Additionally, actors have a history of hosting awards ceremonies. Billy Crystal has hosted the Oscars nine times in total, and Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosted the ceremony to mixed reviews in 2011.

woman sitting and using laptop

Sometimes, whether you're chatting with friends or posting on social media, words just aren't enough -- you need a GIF to fully convey your feelings. If there's a moment from a YouTube video that you want to snip into a GIF, the good news is that you don't need complex software to so it. There are now a bunch of ways to make a GIF from a YouTube video right in your browser.

If you want to use desktop software like Photoshop to make a GIF, then you'll need to download the YouTube video first before you can start making a GIF. However, if you don't want to go through that bother then there are several ways you can make a GIF right in your browser, without the need to download anything. That's ideal if you're working with a low-specced laptop or on a phone, as all the processing to make the GIF is done in the cloud rather than on your machine. With these options you can make quick and fun GIFs from YouTube videos in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Find the YouTube video that you want to turn into a GIF (perhaps a NASA archive?) and copy its URL.

I paid Meta to ‘verify’ me — here’s what actually happened
An Instagram profile on an iPhone.

In the fall of 2023 I decided to do a little experiment in the height of the “blue check” hysteria. Twitter had shifted from verifying accounts based (more or less) on merit or importance and instead would let users pay for a blue checkmark. That obviously went (and still goes) badly. Meanwhile, Meta opened its own verification service earlier in the year, called Meta Verified.

Mostly aimed at “creators,” Meta Verified costs $15 a month and helps you “establish your account authenticity and help[s] your community know it’s the real us with a verified badge." It also gives you “proactive account protection” to help fight impersonation by (in part) requiring you to use two-factor authentication. You’ll also get direct account support “from a real person,” and exclusive features like stickers and stars.
