‘Friends’ or foes? David Schwimmer, James Corden, surprise guest engage in rap battle

Drop the Mic v. David Schwimmer and Rebel Wilson
In the latest edition of James Corden’s Drop the Mic rap battle, a recurring segment that appears on his late-night talk show The Late Late Show, he spits out some serious lyrical rhymes at David Schwimmer, focusing on the actor’s career and typecasting as “Ross from Friends.” A surprise celebrity guest jumps in at the end to put them both down.

In the hilariously awkward battle, Schwimmer knocks Corden’s acting ability and “celebrity” status, suggesting that he has always played the portly best friend character, implying that his midsection is so large he’s unable to see his you-know-what, questioning whether his wife is blind, and urging him to go back to England, or just go make him some tea.

Corden, however, comes back with a series of low blows, mostly relating to Schwimmer’s lackluster career. He suggests he has no friends since his show went off the air in 1995 (get it?), and ends his first set by telling Schwimmer it’s now his chance to “prove you’ve got balls, while I ignore you like Jennifer Aniston does your calls.”

After a series of insults delivered in as best a rap fashion as the pair could muster, funnywoman Rebel Wilson walks in to put both men in their places. “I think you’re great,” she sings to Schwimmer. “I’m your biggest fan … when I was eight.” Corden, meanwhile, gets dissed in relation to the most popular edition of his viral segment, Carpool Karaoke. “Carpool Karaoke, you think it’s your big thing. But everyone’s thinking ‘shut up and let Adele sing.’” Ouch.

It was thoroughly entertaining to watch the two men go at it and Wilson complete the epic battle. Check it out in full; it runs just under seven minutes.

Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

Amazon Prime Video is starting off strong in May with several new additions to its library of movies, including the premiere of the original romantic drama The Idea of You. Last year's underrated Christmas drama The Holdovers is also now streaming on Prime Video. And as far as we're concerned, a good drama is never out of season.

Prime Video lost a handful of movies at the end of April, and Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza is only sticking around through the end of the weekend. But everything else on our list of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video right now is still available. Just keep reading, and you can make plans to watch any of the films that you want to see this month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (May 2024)
Jenna Ortega in Miller's Girl.

It should come as no surprise that this year's hit rom-com Anyone But You has a stranglehold on the top slot of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. But it is somewhat surprising to see Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver completely disappear from the list. That's going to make Rebel Moon – Part Three very unlikely to happen, and it may even discourage Netflix from committing extremely high budgets to its original sci-fi movies.

More tellingly, two of this week's new additions are modestly budget dramas: Miller's Girl and The Judge. The former features Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, while the latter has great lead performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. So it's not a mystery as to why both of those films are two of the top performers of the week.
