‘Mr. Robot’ season 2 gains additional episodes, plus a live aftershow

The surprise twists and turns of Mr. Robot season 2 have already begun, and the show hasn’t even returned yet. USA Network has increased its order for the upcoming second season, adding two episodes to bring the total from 10 to 12, reports Deadline. Additionally, a live aftershow, Hacking Robot, is set to air following the July 13 two-episode premiere.

The new season length does not alter plans for creator and executive producer Sam Esmail to direct the entire season; it does, however, add two more episodes to his workload. Esmail is really stepping it up this season after directing five of season 1’s 10 episodes.

“The first season of Mr. Robot was everything we hoped for — and then some,” said Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, in a statement. “So it’s no surprise that Sam and team have raised the bar even more in season two. From the first moments of the new season, it’ll be clear that audiences are in for something incredibly special and wholly unexpected.”

Among the “unexpected” elements that Esmail has planned for season 2 is at least one scene shot in virtual reality. It will be fascinating to see what else he has up his sleeve. Adding to the fun is the fact that fans will now have the chance to learn more during the new live aftershow. Like aftershows on other networks, such as HBO’s After the Thrones and BBC’s After the BlackHacking Robot will offer behind-the-scenes insight on the show.

In season 2, Mr. Robot will continue following the journey of Elliot Alderson (played by Rami Malek) in the wake of the fsociety 5/9 hack on Evil Corp. The cast also includes Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallström, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer, Stephanie Corneliussen, and more.

A still from Dark Matter (2024) on Apple TV

Some of the best series on Apple TV have earned great reviews, yet none of them get talked about nearly as much as they deserve. That's why I have included three different genres in this weekend's binge list, which is based on a bestselling sci-fi novel, a beloved wine manga, and a true-crime memoir. The best part is that each one of these shows manages to outdo its source material's reputation on the screen.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Apple TV's original catalog is full of hidden gems that never got the attention they deserved, and this weekend's picks prove it. From a true story about two Black entrepreneurs outsmarting a racist system, to Denzel Washington's chilling take on Shakespeare's most ambitious villain, to a scrappy Dublin family finding harmony through music, these three movies span very different genres.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Prime Video's home screen has looked the same for years, with rows of tiles that rarely matches what you actually want to watch. Amazon is betting AI can change that, and Jeff Bezos is personally driving the effort.

Bezos reportedly directed Prime Video head Mike Hopkins to overhaul the streaming service so AI sits front and center, according to Reuters. The project carries an internal codename, Lighthouse, and it's already reshaping how the app might work.
