Cranston may pass on ‘Better Call Saul’ directing gig so he can avoid spoilers

Actor Bryan Cranston on Breaking Bad & The Potential of Appearing on Better Call Saul - 6/28/16
Bryan Cranston is a fan of Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad prequel that follows lawyer Jimmy McGill as he gradually transitions into Saul Goodman. In fact, Cranston, who starred as Walter White in “Breaking Bad,” likes the show so much that he’s thinking of turning down the opportunity to direct an episode, just so he can avoid spoilers.

As reported by ScreenCrush, the Emmy-winning actor stopped by the The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday, and had this to say about the potential to work on Saul:

“I love ‘Better Call Saul,’ and I don’t want to get into the background of it. I don’t even want to talk about the producing entity of it. I have an opportunity to direct an episode of ‘Saul,’ and I’m debating whether I want to or not, because I’m a fan of the show. In order to direct, I need to know what no fan knows, I need to go back, and they’ll tell me ‘here’s what’s going to happen and leading up to the episode.’ And there’s a part of me that says, ‘oh, that would kinda kill it for me as a fan, to peek behind the curtain,’ so I don’t know if I am going to.”

That wasn’t the only revelation that came out of the interview, however, as Cranston also said that he would jump at the chance to return as Walter White in any capacity.

“If they [Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould] were to call me and say: ‘We have this idea, we’d like …,’ I would say, ‘Yes … you don’t have to finish the pitch, I’m there. What do you want me to do?’ I would do whatever they want.”

The actor also revealed that Breaking Bad creator and Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan went to bat for him and insisted that he be cast as Walter White, despite the fact that he was then best known for his role as a “silly, hapless dad” on Malcolm in the Middle.

We’ll have to wait and see if Cranston ends up getting involved with Better Call Saul in any capacity, but it would cause quite the stir if he were to direct — much less appear — in an episode of the show.

Whether this happens or not, you can take heart in knowing the actor won’t be away from the drug world for long. He’ll soon star in The Infiltrator  which tells the story of a U.S. Customs official who uncovers a money -aundering scheme involving the notorious Pablo Escobar. The film hits theaters July 13.

If you have to watch one Star Wars movie this May the 4th, stream this one
Luke looking off into the binary sunset before dying in The Last Jedi.

Every Star Wars fan has a favorite movie, and many Star Wars fans also hate at least one of the entries in one of their favorite franchises. That can make the exercise of choosing the perfect Star Wars movie to watch on May the 4th difficult. For all of the love this fan base has shown to the franchise over the years, it's also a fan base that has strong opinions about why one movie or another is worthy of your time.

This May 4, though, I'd recommend watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Almost undoubtedly the most controversial entry in the saga, one that makes some people furious and others jump for joy, The Last Jedi is worthy of your attention, whether you like what it's doing or not. Here are three reasons you should check it out:
