Acer Aspire 5920, Flashy Like a Gemstone

Acer today introduced a stylish new notebook series which draws off of a new industrial design theme and is powered by the new Intel Centrino mobile technology, codenamed Santa Rosa. The Acer Aspire 5920 models also all incorporate a 15.4-inch wide display and optional HD-DVD drive.

The Aspire 5920 design, said Acer, is called the Gemstone concept and is created to capture "the universal value of natural beauty." The Intel Core 2 Duo processor is built around fourth-generation Centrino platform for what is being described as enhanced system performance and better battery life. Select models of the Aspire 5920 series also incorporate Intel Robson technology which uses "non-volatile memory to increase system responsiveness."

Beyond these highlights potential features on the Aspire 5920, depending upon the model, can include a Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GT graphics card with 256MB of dedicated VRAM, up to 4GB of dual-channel memory, Dolby Home Theater Virtual Surround Sound, a HDMI port and up to 200GB of hard drive space.

I tried an insane one-handed keyboard, and I actually liked it
The TapStrap 2 is a great solution for my Microsoft Surface Book in tablet mode.

I love to experiment with new ways to interact with computers, so when I came across a remarkable keyboard simulator that straps on one hand, I had to give it a try. I was skeptical that it would be useful but found out I actually liked it.

It works reliably in AR and VR without a need to see the keyboard and can be used with nearly any device.

AMD might have just enabled MacBook-like gaming laptops, but I’m still skeptical
The AMD Ryzen CPU and Radeon GPU stickers on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 laptop.

AMD revealed its new Ryzen 7040U series processors for laptops, with bold claims that the chips not only beat the competition from Intel but also outpace the MacBook M2. Perhaps most impressive is that AMD says the processors can handle 1080p gaming with their integrated graphics, possibly enabling a string of thin and light gaming laptops.

I'm still skeptical, mostly on the back of AMD's vague benchmarks and lack of battery testing. Let's get performance out of the way first, though. As you can see in the chart below, AMD is claiming the integrated Radeon 780M GPU can outpace Intel's Iris Xe graphics by upwards of 239% at 1080p.

It looks like no one is buying Nvidia’s RTX 4070
The RTX 4070 graphics card on a pink background.

Despite some positive reviews, including our own RTX 4070 review, Nvidia's latest graphics card is reportedly seeing poor sales. Only one week after launching, it's being beat by last-gen GPUs on bestseller charts, and reports suggest Nvidia could pause production to keep the price stable.

Wccftech reported that an update posted on the Chinese Board Channel forums says Nvidia could temporarily halt production in order to "maintain a stable price system." It's hard to say if Nvidia will actually pause production or not. Inventory and sales numbers are rarely shared, so it's important to handle a forum post like this with some skepticism.
