Peripheral and accessories maker Keyspan has announced its new TuneView for iPod, a combination iPod docking station and wireless remote which enable users to connect their iPod to a stereo or television and manage it from afar with a wireless remote. Nothing much new there—except the TuneView remove offers a 1.4-inch LCD display which lets users manage their iPod content using the familiar iPod interface.
“TuneView is unique. It’s unlike any iPod remote that you’ve used before,” said Mike Ridenhour, Keyspan’s president, in a statement. “TuneView features a color LCD screen that lets you remotely view the contents of your iPod and control playback—allowing you to manage the iPod as if it were in your hands.”
TuneView for iPod consists of an iPod docking station and remote. The docking station offers a universal iPod dock, a USB power adapter, audio line out, S-Video output, audio and USB cables, and selected dock inserts enabling compatibility with various iPod models (including iPod nanos, video-capable iPods, and iPod minis, but not iPod shuffles). The TuneView’s two-way RF remote offers a 1.4-inch LCD screen enables users to adjust volume, navigate menus, play/pause, and skip between tracks; a “Wizard” button offers useful functions depending on context. The remote operates at 2.4 GHz: in the open, the system has a range up to 150 feet, while indoor range is about half that.
TuneView for iPod is available in North America now for $179, and should be available in international markets in early 2007.
