Prisma’s AI filters get an upgrade with a new desktop custom filter builder

prisma adds custom filters and store prismastore
Prisma
The artificially intelligent photography editor that makes shots look like work from classic artists is adding filters from more more modern artists: You. On Wednesday, Prisma launched both a new filter store and, for the most active users, a desktop application to create custom filters.

Only Prisma’s most active users can currently access the custom filters via a desktop website. The desktop tool allows users to upload a photo that they like — perhaps a famous painting or a Photoshop creation of their own — and use sliders to control how the image adjusts.

Prisma’s artificially intelligent platform then goes to work and crafts a filter modeled after the uploaded image — and since it’s powered by AI, it gets better at more accurately mimicking the style the more photos the new effect is applied to. The AI system currently takes about an hour and a half to completely analyze the image and craft a Prisma filter. The filters can then be submitted to Prisma to review and potentially added to the app, presumably through the new store.

While the custom filter is only available to a select number of users for now, every Prisma user now has access to even more effects thanks to the filter store, though store is a sort of misnomer since the current options are free. Prisma plans to add new effects weekly for users to download, eventually moving to daily filter additions in the store.

Along with adding new effects, the latest update also allows users to delete the filters they don’t like, making more room for styles from the store and paring down the number of options to just the ones that actually get some use. Along with deleting store filters that don’t quite cut it, the original 44 filters that download with the app can also be deleted.

The update launched on the App Store Wednesday and on Google Play Thursday. With the new additions, the app remains a free option on both platforms.

The excellent intermediate Canon EOS R10 camera is $86 off at Walmart today
Canon EOS R10 camera mirrorless with STM lens attached and flash up

I recently grabbed a Canon EOS R50 bundle for a trip to the Dominican Republic. I did a lot of research before I made my decision, sifting through the best camera deals, and the two options I essentially narrowed down were the R50 and the EOS R10. The biggest difference between the two is that the R10 gives you more granular control over some of the photoshoot settings. R50, on the other hand, was designed assuming you'll mostly use the automatic shooting modes. That's a great option for novices, while the R10 is better for intermediate to more skilled photographers. Why am I telling you all of this? Because the excellent Canon EOS R10 camera is on sale at Walmart for Black Friday, discounted by $86 to $760 instead of $846. It is one of the better early Black Friday camera deals I've found so far. It comes with an 18-45mm lens. Needless to say, that's a great deal. Comparatively, the R10 with body only -- no lens -- is .

Why shop the Canon EOS R10 camera in Walmart's early Black Friday sale?
