In the market for a $40 Android tablet? Take a look at the Jide Ultra Remix Android tablet

Announced back in January by a group of ex-Google employees, the Jide Ultra Remix could be in your hands later this year for around $400. However, through the company’s upcoming Kickstarter campaign, it can be yours for a measly $40, reports Liliputing.

The campaign, which launches on March 25, has an entry pledge reward level of $40. Although the reward for that level was not revealed, Jide did say every pledge will receive a tablet.

Hardware-wise, the Ultra Remix seems to be in order. It is powered by a Tegra 4 processor, backed up by 2GB of RAM, and comes with up to 64GB of internal storage. There’s a huge 8,100mAh battery onboard, and because of its 2-in-1 nature, every Ultra Remix tablet will include a keyboard. It’s the software that still needs tweaking, which is why you can grab the Ultra Remix for so cheap: Jide needs guinea pigs.

The Ultra Remix runs a heavily-customized version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat. However, an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is in the works, which is optimized for the tablet’s 11.6-inch screen. In other words, it’s meant to bring a laptop experience to Android. Because it’s still incomplete, Jide looks to this entry pledge reward level as a way to receive feedback on how it can improve its new operating system.

Jide didn’t reveal how many of its Ultra Remix tablets will be available at the entry pledge reward level, though we should find out when the Kickstarter campaign launches.
