Blizzard Entertainment, Inc has announced that less than a month after introducing the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft in China subscriptions have surpassed 1.5 million players. Now one of the largest MMORPGs in the world, the game has more than 3.5 million global players.
Blizzard has teamed with The9, a MMO operator who has dedicated a team inside China, composed of native Chinese management and employees. In addition to translating the game into Chinese, the game has been modified by localizing game content. To help with the transition into another language and culture, The9 works directly with Blizzard developers in translating the feedback of the new players, and hosts a 24 hour customer service call center.
The 1.5 million Chinese customers now join the 2 million players currently in North America. Blizzard plans to continue expanding its game, with a launch schedule in Taiwan, and other parts of China.
