We first heard about it via a tweet back in December, but Namco Bandai officially announced the existence of Soul Calibur V at its “Level Up” press conference in Dubai. The new game takes place 17 years after Soul Calibur IV, and stars Patroclus, the son of Sophitia, if you keep up with that sort of thing. Namco promises an improved battle system and new features, but stopped short of explaining how the battle system will be improved or what new features will be added. We expect to learn more at E3. The game will release in 2012.

The teaser trailer is below.

Other new games

Namco Bandai showed off trailers for Dark Souls, Ridge Racer Unbounded, and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.

The company also shared some release info, courtesy of VG24/7:

  • Ridge Racer Unbounded coming to PS3 and X360 on Feb. 7, 2012
  • Dark Souls coming to PS3 and X360 in Oct. 2011
  • Ace Combat: Assault Horizon coming to PS3 and X360 on Oct. 11, 2011
  • Tales of Graces F will hit the PS3 next year (U.S. and Europe)
  • Tales of the Abyss will be released for the 3DS
  • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja will hit the PSP in September
  • New Dragonball game coming to PS3 and Xbox 360
  • Ace Combat for 3DS in development

Tekken computer animated movie

Last on the docket was Tekken. No, not a new Tekken game. Instead, Namco Bandai has made a fully computer generated Tekken movie along the lines of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Titled Tekken: Blood Vengeance, the film is directed by Youichi Mouri, who made the opening cinematics for Tekken 5 and Tekken 6. The screenplay was written by Dai Sato, who anime fans may know as one of the writers of Cowboy Bebop. It will be released in theaters this summer in Digital 3D.

A live action Tekken film is due in America on DVD and blu-ray on July 19, but the projects are unrelated.
