A ‘Kingsman’ character will indeed return from the dead for ‘The Golden Circle’

The first promotional image for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, released back in April, teased the potential return of a character killed off in 2014’s surprisingly good Kingsman: The Secret Service. Now, a photo from the set of the sequel seems to confirm that character’s resurrection.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle cast member Pedro Pascale posted the image to his Instagram account, and it certainly seems to make the character’s return clear. Of course, if you haven’t seen Kingsman: The Secret Service yet, you might want to steer clear of the photo — and the rest of this report — to avoid spoilers.

Pictured in Pascale’s photo is Colin Firth, the Oscar-winning actor who played secret agent Harry Hart (code-named “Galahad”)  in the 2014 film. Firth’s character met an untimely end in The Secret Service, but only after stealing the show with one of the film’s most memorable — and violent — fight sequences.

The promotional image that was released earlier this year hinted at Harry Hart’s return with a shot of his glasses over the caption, “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”

If Firth is indeed returning for The Golden Circle, he won’t be the only one. Taron Egerton will reprise his role as the new Kingsman operative, Eggsy, and will be joined by Mark Strong returning as the team’s tech expert, Merlin. Among the newcomers in The Golden Circle will be Halle Berry as the head of the CIA, Game of Thrones actor Pascal as a character named “Jack Daniels,” and Channing Tatum as an unidentified American character. Julianne Moore will play the film’s primary villain, and both Jeff Bridges and Vinnie Jones will reportedly play supporting roles.

As if that wasn’t enough star power, Sir Elton John is expected to make a cameo in the film, too.

Original Kingsman writer and director Matthew Vaughn will also return behind the camera for a story that takes the British team of secret agents across the ocean to the U.S.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters June 16, 2017.

Elisabeth Moss standing by a mirror, looking behind her in a scene from The Veil.

FX and Hulu's spy thriller The Veil debuted on the last day of April, and it's still one of the best new shows to stream this week, alongside the third season premiere of the Max original comedy series Hacks. However, Star Wars fans are going to have to wait until Saturday, May 4 to watch the new animated anthology Star Wars: Tales of the Empire.

But if you missed any of last week's new shows, Knuckles, Dead Boy Detectives, and The Big Door Prize are still worth watching this month. You can find those series and more in our weekly roundup of the best new shows to stream below.

Paul walks in the desert in Dune: Part Two.

This is sure to be an unusual year for Hollywood cinema. With the regular cadence of franchise blockbusters disrupted by the Hollywood strikes of 2023, there are fewer surefire bets at the box office. And some of the studios’ supposedly safer gambles, like Madame Web and Argylle, have already fallen flat upon release. Of course, this doesn’t mean there hasn’t been anything worth seeing in theaters or streaming at home.
In addition to a few standout franchise entries, the year to date has seen a number of terrific smaller-scale dramas, horror flicks, and indie comedies, many of them by debuting filmmakers. With luck, the relative lack of competition for audience attention will allow one or more underdogs to make a big cultural splash.
