The first trailer for Fearless was released this week, and it offers an early peek at the series’ exploration of professional bull riders and the sport that takes them around the world, competing in an exceptionally dangerous activity that lasts mere seconds and can cost them dearly.
Andrew Fried, the showrunner on the Emmy-nominated series Chef’s Table was also behind the camera for Fearless, which follows American and Brazilian bull riders as they challenge each other and themselves in competitions across South America and the United States. Their efforts culminate with a heated competition at the Professional Bull Riders World Finals in Las Vegas.
While the series focuses on the riders, the bulls will also get their time in the spotlight, as the series’ official synopsis indicates that, “at the heart of the series are the 1,500-pound celebrities, each bull with its own distinctive personality and athleticism.”
Netflix has been on a roll lately with the documentary programming its acquired, which includes the Oscar-nominated Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom and What Happened, Miss Simone? and Emmy Award nominee Chef’s Table. Other recent documentary pick-ups include the politically themed The Square and the fascinating chronicle of a now-defunct minor league baseball team in The Battered Bastards of Baseball.
Fearless premieres August 19 on Netflix.
