Vin Diesel is moving behind the scenes and to the small screen with a new procedural drama, reports Variety.

NBC has reportedly bought a script for First Responders, a one-hour drama series that is currently in development. The action movie star is credited as an executive producer of the show.

Not surprisingly, it promises to be action-packed. The show focuses on young military veterans who are struggling to re-enter society, and decide to form an elite search and rescue team. Team leaders Doc and Lil Pierce serve as a surrogate family for the rest of the team. In a dramatic twist, the pair, who are husband and wife, are searching for their missing son.

The show will be written by Jesse Stern, best known as a writer in the video game world, including the Call of Duty and Titanfall franchises. He has had his hand in the TV world as well, having served as a writer and producer on the popular CBS series NCIS.

Also executive producing is Samantha Vincent from Diesel’s One Race Television, as well as Jeff Fierson of ASAP Entertainment. Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage) will direct, while Shana Waterman will serve as co-executive producer and will oversee the project.

First Responders will join some very successful films under Diesel’s One Race Films wing, including the Fast and Furious franchise, Pitch Black, and The Chronicles of Riddick. While those films all starred Diesel himself, it appears the actor will not be in front of the camera for this new television project.

Diesel (whose real name is Mark Sinclair) provided the voice of Groot in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy, and he reprised his role as alpha male Dominic Toretto in Furious 7 in 2015. He’ll next appear on screen in the war drama Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (November 11), followed by Fast 8, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, all of which are currently in post-production and confirmed for 2017.

Netflix is home to many great shows. It's also the most prolific and well-known streaming service of them all, with a large catalog of original and acquired content. However, the King of Streamers is also famous for being quite trigger-happy. Indeed, Netflix is no stranger to canceling its shows, even if it spent millions producing them; if they don't yield immediate results, the streamer will pull the plug without blinking an eye.

Still, many original shows have beaten the cancellation curse and had a successful life, at least by streaming standards. These shows are Netflix's best efforts that actually got to enjoy a full life cycle, receiving more than five seasons. None might come close to the 100-episode mark, but these beloved series prove to hopeful showrunners everywhere that there is indeed life on Netflix after season 5.
