Stop using plastic water bottles and check out smart water cooler Bevi

Staying hydrated may be good for you, but if that hydration involves using thousands of plastic bottles, it may not be so good for the planet. Luckily, there’s a solution that will keep you healthy without destroying the planet — meet Bevi, a smart water cooler providing eco-friendly drinks that are deliciously environmentally friendly.

As per the Institute for Sustainable Communication, some 10.5 million tons of plastic waste are generated every single year in the U.S., but at most, just 2 percent of this waste is recycled. And the workplace tends to be one of the biggest offenders when it comes to creating that waste — after all, just think of the number of water bottles scattered about the various conference rooms in your office.

But Boston-based startup Bevi hopes to address that issue with its smart beverage cooler in a plastic-free and eco-friendly manner. The smart office cooler is capable of customizing 15 flavored water creations using steamed fruits, with choices ranging from Orange Mango to Blueberry Cucumber for thirsty workers, encouraging them to drink more water from a glass rather than grabbing a plastic bottle or can. Already, Bevi estimates that its cooler, which can be found in Netflix, Lyft, Soul Cycle, and Thrillist offices, has saved over four million plastic bottles from the landfill. And now, Bevi is looking to expand into other markets, including Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Austin, Texas.

“We believe that our smart water cooler has the potential to truly disrupt the way employees think about drinking water. The hope is that we can help inspire behavioral change and encourage more sustainable habits in the workplace, whilst also offering great drink choices to keep people hydrated during the day,” said Sean Grundy, CEO at Bevi. “It’s been incredible to see that dream becoming a reality, and to witness the environmental impact every single day. Some of our customers used to burn through thousands of plastic water bottles per week, and have replaced refrigerators stocked full of disposable bottles with Bevi units.”

Bevi’s smart water cooler also features a connected interface, allowing companies and individuals alike to track their environmental impact (or lack thereof) with the smart water cooler. So if you’re looking for ways to go green, you may want to start with this cooler.

This smart knitted fabric can flip switches, count your steps, and even change shape
Grandma's knitting just entered its Iron Man era

For most of us, knitting brings to mind sweaters, scarves, and perhaps an ambitious grandmother determined to make winter more fashionable. Researchers at Harvard University, however, have a far more futuristic vision. They've transformed ordinary knitted fabric into a programmable material capable of changing shape, acting as an electrical switch, sensing movement, and potentially forming the foundation of tomorrow's wearable technology.

The research, published in Advanced Functional Materials by scientists at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), demonstrates how machine-knitted textiles can "snap" between multiple stable shapes without relying on motors or rigid mechanical parts.

Starlink V4 vs V5

Not every hardware upgrade needs to be about speed. With Starlink V5, SpaceX is betting that a lighter design and lower power consumption matter just as much. The company has officially introduced its next-generation Starlink V5 kit, featuring a smaller and lighter design with significantly improved power efficiency.

Frontier joins the Starlink club with high-speed in-flight internet
The carrier plans to roll out SpaceX's satellite-powered Wi-Fi across its fleet starting in 2027.
Frontier Starlink partnership featured

If there's one thing budget airlines aren't exactly known for, it's great onboard Wi-Fi. In Frontier Airlines' case, it hasn't offered in-flight internet at all. That's about to change. Frontier Airlines has announced a partnership with SpaceX's Starlink to bring high-speed, low-latency internet across its fleet. Installations will begin in early 2027, making Frontier the first ultra-low-cost carrier in the United States to adopt Starlink's satellite-powered connectivity.
