Get a peek at Dr. Jekyll’s transformation in a new teaser for ‘The Mummy’

The Mummy Sneak Peek: First Look at Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde | Syfy Wire
Universal Pictures has big plans for its upcoming film The Mummy, which is intended to kick-start a new cinematic universe based on the classic Universal monsters. The film will lay the groundwork for that universe by introducing another famous monster in The Mummy, with Russell Crowe portraying the famous — or perhaps infamous — literary character Dr. Jekyll in the film.

In a new teaser for The Mummy presented by SyFy Wire, Crowe can be glimpsed in some stage of transformation from Dr. Jekyll into his deadly alter ego, Mr. Hyde. (A close-up of his face can be seen around the 2:13 mark in the video.)

The characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were first introduced in Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 story the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which followed a London lawyer investigating a strange set of incidents that seem to be connected to his scientist friend Henry Jekyll and the brutal villain Edward Hyde. He eventually learns that Jekyll and Hyde are one and the same person, with the scientist transforming into his immoral counterpart first by choice, then involuntarily over time.

As the teaser indicates, The Mummy introduces Jekyll as the head of a secret organization tasked with investigating evil artifacts and other supernatural mysteries.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, who served as a writer and producer on the first two installments of the rebooted Star Trek franchise, The Mummy casts Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret ServiceStar Trek Beyond) as the ancient Egyptian queen Ahmanet, who wreaks havoc on the modern era after she is brought back from the dead. Tom Cruise stars in the film as the man who unearths Ahmanet’s tomb, only to become the focus of her curse and a key figure in her mission to remake the world.

Along with the trio of Cruise, Boutella, and Crowe, the film’s cast also includes Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle Wallis as the female lead, Jenny Halsey. Jake Johnson (Jurassic World) and Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson) also play supporting roles.

The script for The Mummy was penned by The Usual Suspects screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie and Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts. Following The Mummy, Universal has plans to develop new films for its cinematic universe based on The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, The Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing.

The Mummy hits theaters June 9.

Everything you need to know about Andor season 2
Cassian aims his gun in Andor.

Andor is arguably Lucasfilm's crowning achievement of the 21st century. While that may be up for debate, there's no denying the success of Andor season 1, culminating with universal acclaim from critics and eight Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It's certainly the most mature Star Wars project to date.

Created by Tony Gilroy, Andor stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the petty thief who will eventually become a key leader and spy for the Rebel Alliance. Andor is a prequel set five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the film where Luna first introduced audiences to Cassian. It's been a long time since Andor season 1 ended in November 2022. Slowly but surely, season 2 is on the way. Below is everything you need to know about Andor season 2.
Is there a release date for Andor season 2?
There is no release date for Andor season 2 yet. Andor season 2 was originally scheduled to be released in August 2024, two years after season 1 premiered. However, the series experienced several production delays while filming because of the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes. Therefore, Andor season 2 had to move its late summer 2024 release date.

The best Star Wars shows on Disney+
Morgan Elsbeth in Star Wars: Tales of the Empire.

When Disney+ launched in 2019, it was understood that the biggest attractions were the Star Wars and Marvel original series. Nearly five years later, the rollout of shows from those franchises has slowed down to a virtual crawl. However, heading into this year's Star Wars Day, there are actually two new shows on the horizon. But we can't guarantee anything else Star Wars-related will arrive on Disney+ in 2024.

On May 4, Disney+ is premiering the animated anthology series, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, which follows up on some story threads from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Ahsoka. Star Wars: The Acolyte will follow on June 4, but we don't have too many details about that series yet. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was originally slated to arrive in 2024 as well, but since there's been no sign of that series to date, it may slip into 2025.
