Samsung Partners With EPA for ENERGY STAR Pledge

It seems Samsung’s CES motto this year is “go green, or go home,” because the big name tech manufacturer has been unloading eco-friendly products and talking tv recycling since it got to Las Vegas. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced today it will be promoting the “ENERGY STAR pledge” at CES this week. The company says it is emphasizing its energy-saving and eco commitment by partnering with The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the “Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR” pledge.Samsung says it is conducting a sweepstakes for those who take the Samsung and EPA pledge via online or sign the document. Four people will be selected and each will be awarded an ENERGY STAR qualified 40” LED TV.

Samsung has been working closely with the Plug-In To eCycling program, which promotes and fosters opportunities for people to donate or recycle their used electronics and replace them with new environmentally-friendly models. Samsung says its Recycling Directprogram has recycled over 16 million lbs of old electronics to date and just recently added 62 new fixed drop-off locations bringing the current total to over 260 places where you can easily recycle your electronics.

“We appreciate Samsung’s enthusiastic support of our Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR campaign,” said Jill Vohr, Marketing Manager for the US EPA. “By taking the ENERGY STAR Pledge, each of us can sign up to take action against global warming by using energy more efficiently.”

Samsung’s new partnership with the EPA will help the company attain the goals it set in its EcoManagement 2013 initiative. The company also declared its carbon neutral presence at CES.

For months, rumors have suggested that OpenAI's first hardware product could be a wearable AI device, or perhaps even the beginning of its long-term smartphone ambitions. OpenAI's first AI device could end up being a speaker, following plenty of hype that the company is actually working on a wearable AI device and might even launch a smartphone down the road. According to a Bloomberg report, the speaker will serve as a human-like AI companion that will integrate directly with the smart home ecosystem.
