New Oakley RAZARWIRE Goes Bluetooth

Futuristic sunglass design meets wireless headset is the name of the game as Motorola and Oakley announced today the new RAZARWIRE sunglasses. This hot little gadget, set to debut through Cingular Wireless in early August for $294.99, allows users to communicate wirelessly to their cellphones through Bluetooth.

The RAZARWIRE, according to this press release, allows communication with Bluetooth equipped cell phones up to 30 feet away. It uses Motorola’s third generation Bluetooth technology and supports Bluetooth 1.2 and below. The Bluetooth module is built into the sunglasses in such a way to make it fit cleanly with the overall stylish look.

Controls are also integrated into the design, as is the charging port. The RAZARWIRE allows for five hours of talk time and standby time of up to 100 hours.

As far as Oakley sunglass technology goes, the RAZARWIRE offers up things like a light frame, spring hinges, increased grip, UV and blue light filtration and angle clarity. It will initally be available in three color frame/lens color combinations.

The RAZARWIRE expands Oakley’s growth into consumer electronics, joining the company’s THUMP MP3 player sunglasses.

“Seamless mobility is here, now with the availability of RAZRWIRE,” said Bruce Hawver, vice president of companion products, Motorola’s Mobile Device business. “Motorola and Oakley are bringing innovative wearable technology to life. With this one-of-a-kind Bluetooth-enabled mobile eyewear, active consumers can stay connected while moving from one environment to the next.”

“RAZRWIRE’s fully integrated design takes advantage of the world’s best eyewear and wireless technologies to give freedom of life, movement and communication anywhere and everywhere you want to be, so now seeing and hearing is believing,” said Cos Lykos, vice president of business development, Oakley. “Our partnership with Motorola expands the possibilities of Oakley’s new electronics category, offering our engineers an expanded arsenal to develop new and innovative electronics products.”

“RAZRWIRE is the essence of innovative mobile communications, offering a wearable Bluetooth solution that provides access to our ALLOVER(sm) network while allowing consumers to enjoy their active lifestyles with comfort and convenience,” said David Christopher, vice president of product management, Cingular Wireless. “We are excited to be the first wireless carrier to offer RAZRWIRE.”

The new Insta360 X4 looks like the ultimate action camera
Insta360 X4 mounted on a car.

Insta360 just announced its new X4, which will be one of the first cameras to bring 8K to 360-degree videos. The new Insta360 camera lets you capture its highest resolution at 30 frames per second (fps) for detailed and sharp output. You can reframe the footage after shooting, and the company claims that it remains “detailed and sharp after reframing.”

The Insta360 X4 also features the ability to shoot in 4x slow-motion at 4K 100 fps, which sounds tremendous in theory. For 360-degree action shots, you also get a new 5.7K resolution at the same 60 fps for smoother and sharper shots. As with all 2024 tech hardware, the X4 includes a touch of AI – with one of the AI features letting you shoot 72MP 360-degree photos with the AI denoising feature.
