At Mobile World Congress this year, LG updated its stylish L-Series smartphones, revealing the subtly tweaked Optimus L3 II, Optimus L5 II, and Optimus L7 II. Each had new processors, upgraded cameras and a refined design to help entice the more fashion conscious smartphone buyer.

Now, it looks like LG is preparing a sequel to the Optimus L9, as a leak has provided a few choice details concerning the device. LG announced the Optimus L9 this time last year – six months after the original L3, L5, and L7 – and once again it’s set to be the most technically impressive L-Series phone.

LG Optimus L9You can see a possible picture of the Optimus L9 II above and on the front, the primary alteration is the disappearance of a physical home button, which has been replaced by a set of capacitive touch keys. The rear of the phone looks like it’s an unfinished prototype, as the L-Series is supposed to be all about style, looks, and on the L9 a metal chassis, not bargain basement plastics. The camera lens is now in the center with the flash alongside it, rather than offset to the side, and there’s no speaker grille either.

Inside the phone, the TI OMAP chip used on the original will probably be replaced by a dual-core, 1GHz Snapdragon S4 processor along with 1GB of RAM, while the operating system is expected to be Android 4.1.2. Other changes include the possibility the camera will be upgraded from 5-megapixels to 8-megapixels, and the VGA front cam upped to 1.3 megapixels.

There’s no word on the Optimus L9 II’s screen. A 4.7-inch, 960 x 540 pixel resolution screen sits on the existing Optimus L9, so perhaps we’ll be seeing the same again. LG revealed the L9 on August 29 last year, indicating we may not have long to go before its successor officially makes its debut.
