Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 850 Brabus 6.0 is a supercar disguised as a station wagon

Why buy a supercar when you can have a station wagon?

That may seem like a dumb question, but the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Brabus 850 6.0 is no ordinary wagon. It’s got the performance of a supercar, but with the ability to haul … many things.

The stock E63 AMG S 4Matic has a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Brabus increases the displacement to 5.9 liters, add bigger turbochargers, and other modifications. The result is a staggering 850 hp and 1,069 lb-ft.

That’s literally too much power. Brabus has to electronically limit the torque output to 848 lb-ft, presumably to keep the E63 from disrupting the space-time continuum.

Even with that ‘handicap’, the Brabus E63 can accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in 3.1 seconds. Top speed is 187 mph on the stock tires, or a supercar-rivaling 217 mph on the optional performance tires.

Aesthetic enhancements include a sinister blackout treatment, carbon fiber front lip spoiler, a rear diffuser, and custom wheels. It’s a moot point though: the performance of this wagon is what makes the biggest impression.

After all, how much fun would it be to outrun a Ferrari in this thing, then go grocery shopping?

As crazy as it seems, the E63 Brabus 850 6.0 is not the most ludicrous utility vehicle to wear the big “B” badge. That honor probably goes to the GL63 AMG-based B63-620 Widestar, a seven-seat SUV with 611 hp and a top speed of 147 mph.

Then there’s the B63S 700 6×6. It’s a tuned version of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6, already one of the most improbable vehicles ever to go into production. The Brabus version has 690 hp, and can do 0-60 mph in around 7.0 seconds despite its 37-inch off road tires.

So clearly, you don’t need to sacrifice practicality if you want to go fast. You just need to get a Brabus.
