Square Enix is set to release Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PlayStation 4 on April 14, 2014. The subscription-based MMORPG came to PC and PlayStation 3 in mid-2013 after an extended development that saw the first version of the game shut down and completely reworked. A Realm Reborn has fared well with critics since its 2013 launch, and its April release on PS4 should help to bolster the new console’s library.
Pre-orders for both the $39.99 standard edition and a more elaborate Collector’s Edition kick off today, January 27, with both versions including the Mog Cap and Cait Sith Doll as in-game bonus items along with Early Access to the game, starting on April 11. The Collector’s Edition, which is available at the Square Enix Online Store for $79.99, or in digital-only form on the PlayStation Store for $59.99, also includes an art book, a soundtrack, the “Seventh Umbral Era Special Movie Content Disc – The Waning of the Sixth Sun” (whatever that may be), an art card set, a FFXIV-themed security token, and a handful of in-game items (Coeurl mount, Behemoth barding, Baby Behemoth minion, Helm of Light, Fat Chocobo mount, and Wind-up Moogle minion).
All PlayStation 4 owners will be able to participate in the game’s beta test, which kicks off on February 22. Those who have been playing on PS3 will also have the opportunity to transfer their account over to the PS4 version of the game starting on April 11, though take note that doing so invalidates the PS3 account. In other words, you won’t be able to jump between the two console versions on one account. Every copy of the game includes a 30-day trial, and there’s a $12.99 monthly subscription after that.
