Nokia’s all revved up over the Lumia Icon, as rumors point to February 20 reveal

Check out our review of the Nokia Lumia Icon smartphone.

Vroom! Nokia has posted a new video on its official US YouTube channel, which hints at the forthcoming arrival of, well, something. The video lasts just 15 seconds, and starts with the sound of an engine revving up with the words “have you heard what’s coming” fading in and out on the screen.

The motor idles roughly, before we get a sweet-sounding fly past of it running at full chat. This is accompanied by the words “see and hear what you’ve been missing” across a black screen. The video closes with both Nokia’s and Microsoft’s Windows Phone logo displayed.

So what could it be advertising? Well, coincidentally, we’re waiting for the announcement of a new US-only Nokia phone. Could this be a prelude to the Verizon-bound Lumia Icon? We last heard about the Icon at the end of January, when the device very briefly showed up on Verizon’s own website. Until that time, we knew of the phone under the Lumia 929 codename.

Before the webpage was removed, the Lumia Icon’s features were almost entirely revealed. The Windows Phone 8-powered phone has a 5-inch, 1080p resolution touchscreen, a Snapdragon 800 processor, and a 20-megapixel camera. The camera also featured optical image stabilization and a dual-LED flash. On the page, Verizon used the phrase “see and hear what you’ve been missing” to describe the Icon, highlighting its HD screen and stereo speakers.

If a leak from WPCentral.com is correct, the Lumia Icon may be announced within the next few days. An image supposedly showing a Verizon inventory list schedules Icon pre-orders for February 12, with availability beginning the week after on February 20. Release dates have been spread before though, and none of them have so far been accurate. If the inventory dates are right, then we’ll know if the Icon is finally ready to be revealed very soon.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR is my new favorite Android phone of 2024
Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
