LittleBigPlanet 3 private beta announced for fansite members

A private beta for LittleBigPlanet 3 will begin sometime in August 2014, as LBPCentral community manage shared in a new forum message. The closed beta will be extremely small in size, with hand-picked community creators receiving their invitation to the beta through private messages.

The distribution of beta invitations was not determined by console ownership, as Isbell notes that an even mix of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 users were selected. He also adds that creators who ply their craft on the PS Vita version of LittleBigPlanet had been selected as well.

Though only a few will be selected for this beta, Isbell adds, “don’t be discouraged if you didn’t get chosen this time around… We still have plenty of news to share with everyone between now and release!”

LittleBigPlanet 3 switches things up for the series by introducing three new playable characters to join Sackboy on his adventures. More than just re-skins, the quartet of playable characters each bring a special ability to the mix. The intent is to give content creators a more complex set of options when designing their puzzles. In another neat twist, the new game includes total backwards-compatible support for all user-generated content from the previous console releases.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is currently scheduled for a November 30 release, on PS3 and PS4.

Call of Duty competitor XDefiant is finally coming out this month

Ubisoft's XDefiant, a first-person shooter meant to take on the likes of Call of Duty, will finally get a wide release and enter its Preseason on May 21.

Ubisoft San Francisco announced XDefiant in July 2021 and has held several rounds of testing for the game since then. It's a 6v6 competitive shooter being worked on by former Call of Duty developers, where the main hook is that each faction is based on a Ubisoft franchise. Series like Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, The Division, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs are all represented here. After years of testing, Ubisoft initially promised a wide release for XDefiant sometime around September or October of 2023, but delayed the game after a public test session.
