Christopher Nolan has a knack for keeping things mysterious with his films, and that trend has continued with his upcoming sci-fi adventure Interstellar. Details about the film have remained scarce in the lead-up to its November 7 release, but a recently launched website may offer some clues about what audiences can expect from the much-anticipated movie.
Located at www.interstellarmovie.com, the site appears to simply feature a shot of lone farmhouse (possibly the one owned by Matthew McConaughey’s character) surrounded by fields, with the ominous message “The Answer Lies Above Us” and “Look Around You” fading in and out of the screen periodically. A little interaction with the site, however, reveals that the image can be rotated a full 360 degrees to look around the field, and also rotated upwards to gaze into the sky.
But that’s not all that’s going on with the site…
Members of the NolanFans.com community have done quite a bit of investigation of the site, and determined that not only does the sky look different depending on the geographic location of the site’s visitors, but it also changes according to the time of day where visitors are located. Viewing the site at night offers a distinctly different image, for example, with flickering stars and constellations in the sky. And according to a post on the fan forum, those blinking stars — which happen to be in the shape of the Big Dipper constellation — correspond to the date of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Got all that?
Given Nolan’s history with this sort of thing (the epic viral campaign for The Dark Knight, for example), it’s reasonable to expect that there are a lot more secrets to uncover in the website, so we’re certain to get a few more hints about the film as time goes on. And speaking of being stuck in a mysterious predicament …
