StubHub enters the music concert app world to take on Live Nation

Add as a preferred source on Google

Back in June, music fans in San Francisco were the first to try out the StubHub Music app. Now, the app is available for cities across the United States, the UK, and Canada. StubHub Music aims to take on other concert discovery apps such as Live Nation and WillCall, which alert you when your favorite band or musician is coming into town for a concert.

In order to determine which artists you might want to hear about, StubHub scans your iTunes library. Once it knows what kind of music you listen to, it will ask you where you are and how far you’re willing to travel for concerts. For example, you can set a 150 mile travel radius from wherever you are and then the app will let you know when your favorite acts are going to hold concerts in your designated area.

Obviously, the closer you are to big metropolitan cities, the more concert recommendations you’re going to get. You can also adjust the travel radius if there are some acts you’d travel farther to see and hear live.

Once you’ve decided that you want to attend a specific concert, you can check for tickets and StubHub will endeavor to give you an excellent deal on resold tickets. Most of the time, the app will send you to StubHub to buy tickets from people who are reselling them. Other times it will direct you to other ticket sellers such as Brown Paper Tickets, Eventbrite, or AXS. It won’t send you to Ticketmaster, though, so for those concerts, you’ll have to check the venue’s site or suffer the high price of resold tickets.

StubHub Music also has a nifty feature called “Go together,” which lets you invite a friend to join you at the concert via email, message, or a shared post. Users can also split the ticket cost, using this function.

StubHub told TechCrunch that it is considering adding other music services to offer better recommendations to users. Although the spokesperson didn’t name names, the most likely services to add are Pandora, Spotify, and other radio apps.

StubHub Music is available in the iOS App Store.
