Meizu’s MX4 brings KitKat, an octa-core, and a massive display to the table for $300

If there’s one thing to take away from Google’s current incarnation of the Nexus program, as well as the OnePlus One, it’s that it’s no longer impossible to pack powerful hardware in a package that won’t break the bank. Meizu looks to continue that trend by announcing the MX4, which brings an octa-core processor and a Full HD display to the table.

More specifically, the MX4 packs a 2.2GHz MediaTek MT6595 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Depending on who you talk to, the inclusion of a MediaTek processor might be a good or bad thing, though the 5.36-inch 1920 x 1152 display showing Android 4.4 KitKat with Meizu’s Flyme 4.0 skin on top is sure to impress.

On paper, the MX4 continues its impressive spec sheet with a 20.7-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear- and front-facing cameras, respectively. The handset’s 3100mAh nonremovable battery should theoretically keep the phone chugging along all day, though there is no indication of the MX4 being equipped with a MicroSD card slot — you’ll have to live with the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage options.

The MX4 will go on sale later this month through Meizu’s Meizumart and other outlets, though OppoMart has the base 16GB model going for $300 unlocked, an impressive price point considering the handset’s hardware.
