Dell’s new Venue 11 Pro aims to be the tablet that replaces your laptop

In early 2014, Dell introduced its first Venue 11 Pro 7000 series tablet at CES in Las Vegas. Now the PC company has released yet another version of the same tablet, but this one has a much zippier processor, a lot more RAM, and more storage options.

The Dell Venue 11 pro 7140 has the same 10.8-inch IPS screen with a Full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution as its predecessor. The main difference is that this time around, Dell’s upped the brightness to 400 nits. Hopefully that small change will make the screen brighter on the new model — the first 7000 series Venue 11 Pro’s screen was slightly dim. The build appears to be mostly the same, but unfortunately, the new Venue is slightly heavier than the first model, coming in at 1.62 pounds. It’s still lighter than the Surface Pro 3, which weighs in at 1.75 pounds.

Dell’s focus seems to be more on creating a powerful tablet that can double as a PC than on portability. As such, the new Venue is powered by your choice of the 2GHz Intel Core M 5Y10a processor or the 2.6GHz Core M vPro 5Y70 processor. Intel GT2 graphics are included as well. Would be buyers can also get their choice of 4GB or 8GB LPDDR3 1600MHz RAM to keep things running smoothly on the tablet. The new processor and RAM options should make the new Venue 11 Pro much faster than the earlier model. Additionally, Dell will offer the tablet with 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB Solid State Storage options.

In terms of connectivity, the Venue 11 Pro has a MicroSD card reader, one full size USB 3.0, a headphone and microphone combo jack, one Micro HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and a Sensor Hub, which contains gyro, G-sensor, and proximity sensors. The tablet supports 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and comes with an LTE option. The tablet sports the obligatory cameras, including an 8-megapixel back camera and a 2-megapixel webcam on the front. It’s powered by a 38Whr Lithium Ion battery, which charges with a Micro USB 24 Watt AC adapter.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 starts at $700 and will be available to order on November 11.
