The new King’s Quest is being developed by The Odd Gentlemen, the Los Angeles-based studio behind the stylish puzzle-platformers The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and Maestro Piccolo’s Flea Symphony. According to the developer’s website, the team met with King’s Quest creators and Sierra On-Line co-founders Ken and Roberta Williams in October 2014, and received their enthusiastic blessing for continuing the venerable adventure series.
Activision revived the Sierra brand as a label for independent games in August 2014, and its first release was the recently launched Geometry Wars 3 from Lucid Games. With Telltale’s episodic series’, Broken Age and the remastered Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father peppering the release calendar, adventure games are in vogue once more, which is likely part of the reason that Activision decided to revive the Sierra brand.
