Before Bugatti closes the door on the game-changing Veyron to make way for its successor, which may be called the Chiron, the French company may produce a new, Veyron-based model called the Speedster.
Like the special editions that came before it, the Speedster will likely be built in extremely limited qualities and feature unique styling throughout.
Automobile Magazine reports that the Speedster will wear a lightweight, bespoke body, similar to how the Lamborghini Reventon, Veneno, and Sesto Elemento built upon their standard versions.
The Sesto Elemento, for example, equipped the same 570-horsepower V10 as the Gallardo, yet it weighed a paltry 2,202 pounds due to its carbon fiber construction. If the Bugatti Speedster follows that example in any way, it will definitely live up to its name.
Nothing is confirmed at this time, but given its capstone status for the Veyron model, we’d be very surprised if the Speedster costs anything less than $2.5 million.
After the Speedster leads the Veyron into the sunset, the rumored Chiron will take its place.
The 2017-bound car looks to improve on the massive success, power, and image of its predecessor, with a ridiculous 1,500 hp coming from a retuned 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16. The engine could be bolstered by electric turbocharging tech, however there are rumblings of hybrid components being available as well.
That Earth-moving thrust is expected to propel the vehicle to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds before topping out at an incredible 288 mph. According to our sources, the Chiron will also feature components that are 92 percent new or modified.
